Pastoral Care & Caring Community
What is Pastoral Care?
An Ancient Tradition Made New for Our Day
The term Pastoral Care is rooted in the ancient tradition known as Cura Anamarum or Care of the Soul. While current usage of the term is rooted in the Judeo-Christian tradition, the care of persons’ spiritual and emotional well-being reaches back as far as the collective memories of humans can be extended. Every religious tradition has people who are set apart for this special ministry, both professional and lay. The professional Pastoral Care Team here at First Church is comprised of our Senior and Associate Ministers Daniel Kanter and Aaron White, and they are supported by wonderful member volunteers who are at the heart of our caring community.
We are committed to providing care to our members throughout their lifespan. We do this by meeting and accepting you wherever you are in your life and spiritual journey, by helping you to discover and make meaning from your life events, by cherishing and enriching our understanding the human journey and each other, by experiencing and supporting you through major milestones, celebrations and transitions, and providing you support and care in times of need.
