First Sunday Collections: Through November, the collections have garnered a total of $55,356. Chart and Compass mandates that one Sunday plate-offering a month be designated for a selected not-for-profit organization. In November, North Dallas Shared Ministries (NDSM) was the designee and received over $9,000 thanks to your generosity. (First Church was one of the covenant congregations which founded NDSM in 1983.) Our December collection will follow longstanding tradition, when the Christmas Eve offering will be taken for the Ministers’ Discretionary Fund.

Capital Campaign: Thanks to all who have volunteered to work on the Capital Campaign Team to support our Chart and Compass initiatives. Mark January 6 on your calendars for the volunteer-orientation/training session, from 9 a.m. to noon (more details to come). If you haven’t volunteered, it’s not too late! Just contact Barbara or Bruce Mickey, chairpersons of the upcoming Capital Campaign, or Tom Kirwin, project manager, at 214-599-8583 or tkirwin@dallasuu.org. Volunteering promises to be not only fun but also a wonderful way to get to know others in the congregation.

Social Justice: The Social Justice team of Chart and Compass is following up an already active early fall (voter registration, get-out-the-vote effort, and programs on the environment and the UU-United Nations Office) with other work associated with congregation-identified areas of focus and concern—civil rights and liberties, local community issues, the environment, and democracy. Watch for other items in the DU for opportunities to participate.
