Overview
A group meets to discuss the works of Joseph Campbell on the first Sunday of every month, from 6-8 p.m. in the Library. This group is open to anyone interested in Campbells work, no prior knowledge is required and seldom is advanced reading important. No fees and no advanced registration but no childcare either.
Joseph Campbell dedicated his life to exploring the great cannon of universal myths, metaphors and symbols that create our one great story, but for Campbell its not enough to understand this great history of myth. He insists that myth and religious metaphor be indigenous, matching our own experience.
Myth and metaphor work to meet our deep spiritual needs only if they arise fresh from contemporary and communal experience. Campbell believed this new mythology "is already implicit among us, native to the mind, waiting as the sleeping prince does for the kiss of his beloved."
