Overview
Roots: An Exploration of the Free Church Tradition. Ninety percent of Unitarian Universalist come to UU congregations from other religious traditions or from none at all. Each is asked to shape a personal faith and religious practice out of a combination of their individual reflection and life experience in relationship to the rich tradition that has created the Unitarian Universalist churches of today. Roots is a three-part series in which we discuss the history, principles, and practices of the Free-Church; the concept of covenant and covenantal communities; and the meaning of worship, belief, and church citizenship.
Roots II: This four-week course is a mix of history, theology, and fun. It’s an in-depth look at the history of and current trends in UU thought, where they came from, and how they impact our daily lives. Join us as we explore our ideas and experiment with ways to talk about our personal faith.
A Chosen Faith: “Religion has little to do with a body of beliefs or practices; it represents a gradual process of awakening to the depths and possibilities of life itself,” Forrest Church, Public Theologian and former Senior Minister at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church in Manhattan. Rev. Church and John Buehrens, former Senior Minister of this congregation and Past President of the UUA, wrote an introduction to our free faith tradition entitled A Chosen Faith. This four week course uses their text to explore facets Unitarian Universal faith and practice. Perfect for both UU veterans and newcomers.
