62 year old Lily* had no idea she was at risk for HIV. Her hopes of entering a new stage in life and spending time with her grandchildren were shattered after her first HIV test came back positive. Lily was scared, ashamed, and convinced she would die and never see her grandchildren grow up. However, Lily found Prism Health North Texas and a supportive, caring staff who reassured her that a healthy life was possible. Lily came to every appointment and now has an undetectable viral load, is healthy, and has begun working with hospital patients to give back. We remember the terrified woman who thought life was over, but today see a vibrant grandmother who has everything to live for.
Prism Health North Texas (PHNTX) is the largest local nonprofit HIV service organization in North Texas. With two medical clinics and a broad array of services, PHNTX serves HIV+ people and those at high risk. Services include testing, behavioral health, medical care, research and more. In 2015, 25% of new infections in Dallas County were 13-24 years old. It is up to us all to spread awareness, get tested, and get people we love into treatment.
This year, PHNTX proudly partners with First Unitarian Church & Interweave for the 27th Annual AIDS Walk, LifeWalk, a 5K walk and festival; educating the community about HIV in an inclusive, family-friendly atmosphere. Food, beverages, children’s activities, pet adoptions, and confidential HIV testing are available. Support people impacted by HIV in your community - join the Interweave LifeWalk Team and walk on Sunday, October 1st!
