Music and Choir
The music ministry of First Church nourishes the spirit, builds community, and offers creative service through music.
The music program at First Unitarian Church has long been known for its excellence and has been led through the years by some of the city’s finest musicians.
The musical life of First Church is rich and varied and continues to play a significant role in the worship and life of our church: from classical to jazz, folk to world music, traditional to innovative, our ensembles and soloists provide the very best of what music has to offer.
Music in worship:
Our worship services include instrumental and choral music carefully selected by our Director of Music, Donald Krehbiel, and our Pianist/Associate Director, Alan Dyer, to enrich and strengthen our service.
Music in community:
Our musical ensembles offer members and friends of first Church access to small, caring communities, opportunities for fellowship, and meaningful engagement in a large church.
Opportunity for service:
We offer singing choirs for all age groups, a jazz combo that includes instrumentalists and vocalists, opportunities for our professional musicians to provide solo and chamber music in worship, and encouragement and support for members to form ad hoc groups to meet their musical interests.
We also encourage all musicians to consider sharing their gifts in our Children’s Ministries programs, including our summer camp SumFun.
We invite you to become involved in the music program. Not only is participating in one of the ensembles a good way to meet people in a fun, rewarding setting, it is also a great source of nourishment for both the mind and the soul. To discuss the music program or suggest offerings, please contact Don Krehbiel at firstname.lastname@example.org or 214.884.1214.
